Saint David is the Old Testament king and prophet who did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord.
His remarkable life is full of great accomplishments and promise. He slays Goliath the giant in battle. Although from humble origins, he is anointed King of Israel by Samuel the Prophet. But, he’s not perfect, and his lust leads him to murder. He knows heartbreak, too, when he sees his first-born son’s rebellion fail. He mourns his death deeply. Throughout his life, he wrote many of the psalms we now sing in triumph, joy, repentance, and sorrow.
In the Bible, Saint David is named as, “a man after God’s own heart”—a beautiful phrase if there ever was one. He is a prototype of our Lord Jesus Christ. And, most amazing of all, gives to our Lord one of his important titles, “the Son of David”.
