Icons from the Conestoga Iconographic Studio are available in three different ways—original icons can be commissioned, reproductions can be purchased, and paper prints are available.
The reasons behind commissioning new icons are beautifully varied. Icons from the studio have been created for the founding of a new church, moving into a new home, the birth of a child, and the desire to bring honour to a newly canonized saint have all lead to new icons being commissioned.
Whatever the reason, commissioning an icon begins by making contact with the studio. When writing the studio, please be sure to include the name of the saint, reasons for the desired icon, and the event (or date) for which the work is intended. Further details can then be worked out in a followup conversation by phone or email. Given that an icon can take one to two months to finish, the studio’s calendar is often booked many months, to even a year, in advance. However, wherever possible, everything will be done to have the icon ready in time to meet an event’s deadline.
The cost of making an original icon takes into account the time, talent and materials needed to create these works. The actually size of such icons has very little to do with its cost, since it has little impact on the time and its overall effect on materials is quite minor.
Please contact the studio to inquire about commissioning an icon for your home or church.
Beautiful reproductions of some of the studio’s most significant work from over the past five years is regularly produced. Although the originals vary in size (ranging from small personal works to large church icons) all these reproductions are created at 20cm by 25cm (8″ x 10″). They are created to be beautiful, long lasting icons that combine the best of traditional techniques and modern technologies.
Each is created by hand on a gessoed wooden panel. After being carefully smoothed, they is gilded in the studio with actual 22K gold leaf. After that, the image of an original icon is transferred to the panel using a high-quality giclée printing technique that is extremely fine and permanent.

Paper prints of the studio’s icons are created in a way that makes them accessible to everyone. They are 10cm by 13cm (4″ x 5″) in size, and available under a pay what you can (PWYC) arrangement.
These paper prints are made with two goals in mind—they are beautiful to look at and made in a way that is environmentally friendly. Great care has been taken to make sure that their images are sharp and their colours are true. The gold of each icon’s halo is a metallic foil, which more closely resembles the icon’s original gold. Environmentally, the reproductions are being printed using renewable energy sources and are packaged with recyclable materials that are biodegradable.
