Icon of Saint David the King
$30.00 – $45.00
Mounted print icon of Saint David, the King and Prophet.
Saint David is the Old Testament king and prophet who did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord.
His remarkable life is full of great accomplishments and promise. He slays Goliath the giant in battle. Although from humble origins, he is anointed King of Isreal by Samuel the Prophet. But, he’s not perfect, and his lust leads him to murder. He knows heartbreak when he sees his first-born son’s rebellion fail and mourns his son’s death deeply. Throughout his life, he writes many of the psalms we now sing in triumph, joy, repentance and sorrow.
Saint David is named, “a man after God’s own heart”. He is a protoype of our Lord Jesus Christ. And, prehaps most amazingly, gives to our Lord one of his important titles, “the Son of David”.
“O holy king and prophet David, who according to the flesh is the ancestor of Christ Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer who has delivered us from sin and death!
When you were a youth, tending the sheep of thy father in the fields of Bethlehem of Judea, you were chosen by the Lord, the Good Shepherd, to tend the reason-endowed sheep, his elect, the people of Israel. Then the Spirit of the Most High descended on you and endowed you with his peerless gifts—to rule with justice and prudence; to return good for the evils done to you; to set at nought the wiles and machinations of the enemies of the Almighty; to make music of such exceeding great beauty that the wicked demons took to flight at their sound—which the Holy Church uses in worshiping our all-merciful God; and to offer unto Him a ready penitence for the sins thou didst commit, which serves as a model of Christian repentance for us all.
For this cause, marvelling at your piety and glorifying the one God in Trinity, who hath glorified you and all the saints of ages past, we beseech thee: As thou standest now in the heavens before the dread throne of Christ Jesus the Messiah, the Scion of thy royal lineage, having been raised up by him, at the time of his resurrection, from the nethermost parts of Hades, where thou did await His all-glorious coming, earnestly entreat him on behalf of us, thine unworthy servants, who honour your holy memory and sing praises unto Him with the words of your inspired hymnody, that he take pity on us, forgive us our iniquities, and count us worthy to stand with you at the right hand of his divine majesty when he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
For to him is due all glory, honour and worship, with his unoriginate Father and His all-holy, good and life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.”

These mounted iconographic prints are created with two goals in mind—they are beautiful to look at and made in a way that is environmentally friendly. The images are sharp and their colours are true. The gold of the background is a metallic foil, which more closely resembles the icon’s original gold. Environmentally, the reproductions are being printed on 100% post-consumer paper by a company which uses renewable energy sources.
